Latest Liverpool news: Reds train ahead of Lyon friendly

Liverpool trained in their camp at Evian ahead of their pre-season friendly against Lyon.

The Reds have the Community Shield clash against Manchester City at the weekend, and there was some good news regarding some players returning to the team.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Alisson were back in training after their summer breaks.

The trio was joined by Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita in Evian. The pair had missed much of pre-season with injuries, and it was great to see them return.

It will be interesting to see if any of them face City on Sunday, and other players were put through their paces ahead of the Lyon game.

Youngsters looking to make a mark

Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Joe Gomez took part in training, and our defence has to be stronger than the previous game.

Napoli defeated us 3-0 and our pre-season results have not been great. These games are mostly about getting back into shape and rhythm, but the Reds have not won any of the four pre-season games.

Harvey Elliott was one of the best players against Napoli, and the new signing would want to impress against Lyon too.

Rhian Brewster has been another positive from this pre-season campaign, and the striker should get some minutes in the first-team.

Two others who need to impress are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dejan Lovren. Both of them faced injury problems last season and we need them to remain fit for a long and gruelling campaign ahead.

Liverpool could also use the services of Adam Lallana after an injury-affected campaign. The Englishman is one of the best with the ball at his feet but needs to remain fit.

The Reds were excellent last season and topping that will be difficult, however, Jurgen Klopp has built a great side and it should be another incredible campaign under the German.
