Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst claims that three Liverpool stars could be set for new contracts at the club.
The Liverpool correspondent was taking part in a Q+A session and was asked if the Reds would extend the deals of Joel Matip, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner.
Gorst claimed that all three were in line for new deals but there was no rush for Matip to sign a new deal yet. The Reds want to extend the centre-back’s stay due to his form over the past year or so (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Liverpool are in no rush to sort a new contract for Joel Matip, who has just under two years left on his current deal. However, the Reds will certainly look to extend his stay, you would imagine, given his form over the last six months.”
Milner is also set to be offered a one-year extension on his deal as he is a free agent at the end of the season, and Gorst believed that a contract would be provided later this season.
Wijnaldum also has two years left on his deal but Gorst believed that the Dutch midfielder would be the next one to sign a new contract, with talks having taken place earlier this year.
The trio has all done well for Liverpool over the past year and there is no reason to let them leave anytime soon.
Matip has formed a great partnership with Virgil van Dijk while Wijnaldum has put in several great performances for us.
Milner is one of the most experienced players in the Premier League, and his versatility is also unmatched.
Liverpool have negotiated new deals with several first-team stars over the past 12 months, and it will be interesting to see who else is in line for an extended stay.
