Latest Liverpool transfer news: Reds to monitor Cakir for a few months

Turkish outlet Star TV (h/t Daily Mail) reports that Liverpool have told Trabzonspor that they will be monitoring Uruguayan Cakir for the next few months.

The 23-year-old Turkish keeper has starred for Trabzonspor for a while and has played for the national team too.

The report adds that Liverpool were impressed by the shot-stopper in Trabzonspor’s draw with Fenerbahce on Sunday as Cakir made eight saves in the game.

The Reds had sent scouts to watch the Turkish international in action (h/t Daily Mail) as they search for a long-term second-choice keeper.

The report adds that Bordeaux are also keen on the 23-year-old and could open talks over a £14million deal.

Liverpool had to move quickly to sign Adrian for free once Simon Mignolet left and the Spaniard has done a good job in Alisson’s absence.

The Brazilian keeper injured his calf in the win over Norwich and had to be replaced during the game.

Liverpool have an experienced cover for Adrian, with Andy Lonergan in the ranks, however, the Englishman has never played in the Premier League before.

The Reds have also allowed Loris Karius to leave on a two-year loan deal and it is unlikely he will return to the club after his spell with Besiktas.

Alisson is possibly the best keeper in the world and it will be interesting to see who could be his cover for the long-term.

Adrian is doing a great job at the moment, but he is 32 and only has a few quality years left in him.
