Liverpool announce 2019-20 Champions League group stage squad with two rising stars included

Latest Liverpool news: Van den Berg and Elliott named in Champions League squad

Liverpool got a favourable Champions League group this season with Napoli, Red Bull Salzburg and Genk as their opponents.

Last season was a tough one as we faced Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade, and made it into the knockout phase with a win in the final group game.

The Reds went on to win the title and should have no trouble qualifying from this group, and recently announced their squad for the group stage too.

Harvey Elliott

The names are divided into two groups, List A and List B, and features some surprise names.

Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott were the two big surprises as the pair only signed at the start of the season. The youngsters are yet to play for the senior side, and it will be interesting to see if they feature in the final group games.

List A also featured Andy Lonergan and other first-team stars (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):

List A: Adrian, Alisson, Gomez, Robertson, Salah, Henderson, Firmino, Lallana, Lonergan, Origi, Lovren, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wijnaldum, Mane, Shaqiri, Van den Berg, Fabinho, Van Dijk, Matip, Elliott, Keita.

Other youngsters in List B

The second list features players who were born on or after 1 January 1998 and have been able to play for the side for an uninterrupted period of two years.

The biggest name in this list was Trent Alexander-Arnold, but it also contained other rising stars such as Rhian Brewster and Adam Lewis.

List B: Larouci, Alexander-Arnold, Jones, Kelleher, Lewis, Brewster, Kane.
