Virgil van Dijk agrees new £200,000-a-week contract at Liverpool
The Mirror claims that Virgil van Dijk has agreed on a new deal with the Reds that is expected to earn him close to £200,000-a-week.
The Dutch defender joined Liverpool from Southampton for a club-record fee and has been the best defender in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old has also helped the Reds win the Champions League and we had the best defensive record in the country.
The report claims that negotiations over a new deal had been on for a while and all parties have agreed to the new contract.
Van Dijk still has close to four years left on his original deal and earns £125,000-a-week currently (h/t Mirror).
However, the Netherlands captain’s contract also features several performance-related bonuses, according to the report. The new deal should extend his stay at the club until 2025 and will ensure that we keep hold of the star for the best years of his career (h/t Mirror).
Another important player commits his future to the Reds
The likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have already signed new deals in recent months, and it is great that Van Dijk will follow suit.
The Dutch centre-back has improved our defence a lot since joining from Southampton, and we seem to be getting better with each season with the 28-year-old in the team.
