Roberto Firmino didn’t start for Liverpool in their win over Newcastle United, but the Brazilian was the key to the victory.
Jurgen Klopp decided to mix things up a bit with the Champions League starting in midweek, and Divock Origi was handed a start.
Liverpool conceded the first goal of the game and were also forced into an early change, with Firmino replacing the Belgian attacker.
Origi had twisted his ankle early on but had to be subbed off in the 37th minute. Firmino came on the replace the Belgian, and that is when the magic started.
The Brazilian isn’t the most prolific scorer in the world but his relentless running and pressing helps us create opportunities for his teammates.
The second goal for the Reds was down to Firmino’s excellent pass for Sadio Mane, and the Brazilian also assisted Mohamed Salah for the all–important third.
Firmino had several quality tricks and flicks in the game and the Anfield faithful certainly loved every minute of his performance on Saturday. The Brazilian has been in excellent form since the Copa America and already has two goals and three assists from five Premier League games.
It will be interesting to see if the forward starts in midweek against Napoli, however, he should be in the running after Origi’s injury. Many Liverpool fans were ecstatic with the performance of Firmino and here are some of their reactions.
