Liverpool are in the midst of an investigation regarding the fielding of an ineligible player against MK Dons.
The Reds ran out 2-0 winners in the Carabao Cup clash, but are under investigation regarding Pedro Chirivella’s appearance.
The Spaniard came on in the second half to replace Naby Keita. The Evening Standard reports that Liverpool could be excluded from the competition.
Jurgen Klopp was asked about the investigation by the EFL and claimed that the Reds should be punished if they were solely at fault (h/t Evening Standard):
“I cannot say too much. Other people are working on it. If it was our fault alone, we need to get punished.
“It didn’t happen on purpose but my only real concern is the player. He could not play in Spain and if he were not able to play now, that would be the biggest problem.”
The German wasn’t sure the team made a mistake regarding Chirivella but didn’t want the player to be punished.
It would be a major shame if we are thrown out of the competition as Chirivella didn’t start the game.
The Spaniard didn’t have a major role to play, while the rest of the youngsters put up a great showing at Stadium MK.
Liverpool face Arsenal in the next round of the competition and hopefully, we aren’t punished severely.
This competition is great for blooding youngsters and many impressed in the win over the Dons.
