Simon Mignolet puts up a brilliant display in a 2-2 draw against Real Madrid
Simon Mignolet left Liverpool in the summer searching for regular first-team football. The Belgian was our back-up to Alisson last season and only got a couple of starts in the domestic cups.
The 31-year-old has started his career with Club Brugge well and was one of their stars in the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The former Liverpool keeper might have been playing for the underdogs but Brugge raced to a 2-0 lead at half-time. Emmanuel Bonaventure scored both the goals and even had time to mimic Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration.
Mignolet holds fort as Real fight back
Los Galacticos were never going to lie down as Sergio Ramos scored in the 55th minute. Things were made tough for the away side when Ruud Vormer was sent off late in the game, and Real took advantage.
Casemiro got to the end of a free-kick to make it 2-2, but Mignolet’s side held on for a famous result.
The Belgian made some fantastic stops in the game to keep the scoreline close and he seems to be back at his best with regular games.
The 31-year-old wouldn’t have featured a lot this season had he remained at Liverpool. Alisson picked up a calf injury on the opening day of the campaign but Adrian has done a fantastic job in his place.
Liverpool were beaten by Real in the Champions League final in 2018, and many fans loved Mignolet’s performance at the Bernabeu.
