On-loan star braced for Liverpool return after club unable to seal permanent deal

Loris Karius set for Liverpool return after Besiktas stall on permanent deal

Loris Karius could be set for a Liverpool return due to Turkish giants Besiktas being unable to finance a permanent deal. (h/t Mirror)

The German had been on a 2-year loan at the Turkish side, with the deal set to expire in 2020.

According to the terms of the agreement, Besiktas have paid a £2.25m loan fee to Liverpool and will have to pay a further £5million

to make the deal permanent. The Reds will also receive 20 percent of any future fee should Besiktas choose to sell him. (h/t Telegraph)

The 26-year-old German shot-stopper looked to have beaten Simon Mignolet to the Number 1 spot for Liverpool. Unfortunately, his performance in Champions League Final against Real Madrid put an end to that.

Liverpool signed Brazilian keeper Alisson Becker for a then world-record fee of £65m in 2018. His time at Merseyside numbered, the German chose to resurrect his career elsewhere.

He has been reasonably successful for Besiktas and has made 56 appearances for the Istanbul based side. (h/t Whoscored)

Besiktas are obligated to buy Karius at the end of the loan spell provided certain performance-related clauses

are met, mostly in relation to appearances and European qualification.

With the Turks failing to stump up the required fee, the chances of a permanent deal being struck are remote.

Besiktas are said to be keen to extend the player’s existing loan deal. But with Karius’s contract at Liverpool expiring in 2021, the Reds are unlikely to sanction any deal that won’t get the German off their books permanently.

Karous joined Liverpool from Mainz in 2016 in a deal worth £4.7million.  The German’s career at Liverpool looks to be done and he is likely to be moved on in the summer on a permanent basis.

Liverpool will hope to recoup the amount they paid for the keeper.
