Chirivella, who has been at the club since 2013, has made 9 senior appearances since making his debut in 2015. The 22-year-old is out of a contract this summer and looked likely to leave for a free in the summer.

However, the youngster seems set to be offered a new contract following his impressive performance against Everton. Chirivella anchored the midfield well as a youthful Liverpool side defeated their arch-rivals 1-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

It is possible that the player’s long term future lies elsewhere. By signing a new contract, the club can ensure that he isn’t sold for free when the time comes.

He spent two seasons on loan in the Eredivisie; for Go Ahead Eagles in 2016/17 and Willem II in 2017/18 where he made a combined 52 appearances.

A third loan spell to Extremadura in the Spanish second division failed to materialize last season due to the appropriate documentation not being registered in time.

The youngster’s stock is only set to rise after showing the world what he is capable of in the match against Everton.
