Liverpool submit bid for this £15m-rated international

Liverpool have made a bid for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir

Liverpool have submitted a bid for young Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to Trabzonspor’s president. (h/t Metro)

The 23-year-old took over as the first-choice keeper this season after veteran Onur Kivrak retired in January.

Cakir has gone on to make 20 appearances for Trazsonspor and has also picked up an assist. (h/t Whoscored)

Cakir is valued at £15million by Trabzonspor. He is one of the top young stoppers in Europe and made his full international debut for Turkey against Greece in 2019. The player has excellent shot-stopping skills and reflexes but falls short on his ability to make long passes.

Trabzonspor president Ahmet Aglaoglu has stated that Liverpool have made an offer for the goalkeeper.

“There are offers for Cakir, we continue to receive offers. It’s been said Liverpool have made an offer”

“So a team that is undefeated in the Premier League wants my keeper. In other words Liverpool’s goalkeeper is in my goal.”

With Alisson Becker the undisputed No. 1 at the club, Cakir will have to settle for a stint on the bench, provided the deal goes through.

Alisson will be at the peak of his powers for years to come and it seems like Liverpool are looking at young goalkeepers with an eye on the future.

Signed on a free in the summer, Adrian has proven to be an able backup and was the hero in the penalty shootout against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

With youngster Caoimhin Kelleher also on the club’s books, a serious move by the Reds for Cakir looks unlikely at this moment.
