“Best defender for a reason”: Some Liverpool fans react to Van Dijk’s tackle on this Spurs star

Twitter reacts to Virgil van Dijk’s last-ditch tackle on Dele Alli

Virgil van Dijk is the best defender in the world. It is ridiculous how easy he makes it seems at times.

As Dele Alli drove into the Liverpool penalty area, the Dutchman cleaned him out with a well-placed tackle and won the ball back for his side.

The defender doesn’t usually dive into tackles, but when he does it is one for the highlight reels. Had the timing been even slightly off, Van Dijk could very well have conceded a penalty.

Had Van Dijk not committed to the tackle, Alli could have got his shot in. There is no saying how the match could have turned out had Spurs scored at that point.

The Dutchman marshaled the Liverpool defense well as the Reds notched up their 6th clean sheet in a row. The first time the Reds have achieved it in the last 14 years.

Liverpool have also broken the best start to an English top-flight season with their 20th win in 21 games. The Reds have now gathered an incredible 61 out of 63 points available.

The Reds next face arch-rivals Manchester United as we look to extend our winning run to 13 games.

Liverpool are now 16 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand over second-placed Leicester City who fell to a shock loss at home to Southampton.

Without further ado, we take a look at how some fans reacted to the tackle.
