Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte has chosen to defend his record at Chelsea by comparing himself to Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola. (h/t Football London)
The Italian won the English Premier League in his first season at Chelsea. Conte was quick to point out that neither Klopp nor Guardiola had achieved the same in their first year at the club.
“Klopp hasn’t won anything yet in England after four years and Guardiola didn’t win anything in his first year.”
Conte has been a success in England where he followed up with an FA Cup victory in his season. His comments regarding his peers, however, looks to be in bad taste since both the managers are now among the best in the world.
Klopp led Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup last year while Guardiola completed a domestic treble. The Reds boss looks likely to further add to his string of achievements when Liverpool lift the Premiership after 30 years.
Although Conte is right in making his point from a factual point of view, the narrow scope of the argument makes it look more vindictive. It’s ironic that Klopp will easily overtake Conte’s achievements months after the Italian made this statement.
