With the senior players and staff absent, seven teenagers were named in the starting line-up as Liverpool named their youngest ever team.
The Reds side had a number of promising players but the experience was at a premium. The youngsters showed remarkable maturity and fought to prevail over their more seasoned opponents.
James Milner decided to help Crichtley inspire the youngsters rather than take time off. The 34-year-old not only trained with the youngsters but also was available to give them advice (h/t Independent).
The veteran was an animated presence in the Liverpool dressing room and was always at hand to inspire and instil confidence in the kids (h/t Independent).
Milner has been out of action since limping off against Everton in the FA Cup third round at Anfield. The midfielder doesn’t just add a vast array of experience on the pitch but is also an inspirational leader off the pitch
