Liverpool equal club record of 17 straight wins set earlier in the season

Sadio Mane came off the bench to score his 100th goal in English football. He also ensured that the Reds won their 17th game on the bounce.

The striker would have a sense of Deja vu, as he played a similarly impactful role four months ago in the 2-1 win over Leicester City to create the original record.

That streak came to an end as Liverpool were held to a draw in the following match at Old Trafford. Instead of playing on their laurels, the Reds have incredibly gone and recreated the record for the second time this season.

With West Ham at home next, there is a good chance that the Reds can rewrite history in front of a buoyant Anfield crowd.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds will also equal the Premier League record of 18 wins in a row if they beat West Ham.  That record is currently held by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side who won 18 on the trot

as they finished Centurions in the 2017-18 season.

Liverpool are now unbeaten in 43 league games. They now have the second-longest unbeaten run in English Premier League/First Division history, having overtaken Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest

side from the 1970s. The Reds are just six short of matching the record of 49 games unbeaten set by Arsenal from 2003-2005.

The Reds are also just five wins away from securing their first league title in 30 years. Jurgen Klopp’s team have taken it upon themselves to break a number of records once considered unfathomable by the club’s fans. In the plethora of distinctions that the club can achieve this season, City’s record could be the first domino to fall.
