Highly-rated academy starlet reveals gratitude for Liverpool star who helped him during tough times

Paul Glatzel reveals gratitude to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool youngster Paul Glatzel has thanked first-team star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the advice and support offered to him during his injury layoff. (h/t Liverpoolfc)

The striker who turned 19 today, is successfully recovering from an ACL injury sustained during the club’s pre-season last summer.

Facing a lengthy period out on the sidelines, the 19-year-old is thankful to have received the Liverpool number 15’s attention. Chamberlain was sympathetic to the youngster’s plight, having spent a good chunk of last year out injured himself.

The player has become something of a role model for Glatzel, who has revealed the conversation they shared. Chamberlain enquired about the youngster’s condition while comparing it to his own rehabilitation and advised him to keep going whilst keeping faith in the physios.

Glatzel reveals that he was reassured following Chamberlain’s advice and hopes to return to action quickly.

“It was great for me to hear that from Ox and for me to know that if I stick to it I will be back, and I will be back to the form I was hitting before this injury. I can’t wait to get back.”

Slow and steady wins the race

The youngster has stepped up his rehabilitation in the past few weeks and hopes to play again before the end of the season. He still has about two months of rehabilitation but insists

that he is getting back his strength and sharpness.

Glatzel is hopeful of getting game time this season but insists that he will not rush himself. He has vowed to remain patient and has targetted next summer’s pre-season as a realistic target.

“I don’t want to rush anything because it’s a long-term injury and the season will be nearly finished so I just want to get right for pre-season, but that’s what I’m aiming for.”

Born in Liverpool, Glatzel is of German descent. He enjoyed a successful 2018-19 season as he led Liverpool to the FA Youth Cup. He finished the tournament as the top scorer with eight and also scored the decisive penalty in the shootout against Manchester City in the finals. (h/t Liverpoolfc
