Anfield rises to Jurgen Klopp’s pre-match call for arms

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has tapped into the power of Anfield like no other manager in the recent past. The Reds boss was once again witness to the stadium’s power as a defiant home crowd helped the team overturn a 2-1 deficit in the second half. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

The call for arms was received with much gusto as the fans stepped up their support following the Hammers’ second goal. It was a triumphant end as the Reds prevailed 3-2 to reclaim their sizeable point lead at the top of the table.

The Reds have come a long way since the German took over. One of the first demands the 52-year old made of the fanbase was to support the team and make themselves heard. There have been pitfalls along the way, but now if the crowd is a multitude of musicians, then Klopp is the composer of the melody. The manager demands and the crowd follows.

Absolute faith in the team

The victory over West Ham wasn’t just defiance but also the belief the fans have in the team. Klopp’s Liverpool is unlike anything that the Reds faithful have seen over the years.

It’s a well-oiled machine that does not lose sight of its target in the face of any adversity. Liverpool were shocked when Pablo Fornals put the hammers ahead against the run of play, but not one person in the crowd would have lost faith or thought otherwise, including the players on the field.

What followed was a baying crowd egging on wave after wave of Liverpool attack. Firmino went close twice while the likes of Salah and Mane forced a slew of corners. The faith was rewarded in the 68th minute when Salah’s admittedly tame effort squeezed past the unfortunate Lukasz Fabianski to draw the Reds level.

With their tails up, the Reds went for the kill and finally succeeded in the 81st minute. A fortunate deflection allowed Salah to pass the ball past the hapless Fabianski for Mane to score into an empty net. The crowd went wild. It was a victory as much theirs, as that of the team.
