Four records that were broken/matched during Liverpool’s 3-2 win vs West Ham

The records Liverpool achieved with win over West Ham United

For 56 minutes against Liverpool at Anfield, West Ham stood in the way of Jurgen Klopp’s team as they looked to rewrite the history book. Thirteen would prove to be an unlucky number for the Hammers as two goals in that timeframe turned the tie on its head.

Sadio Mane’s 81st-minute winner not only won the Reds all three points but also helped them break a number of records. We take a look at few of them below.

1. Most consecutive home wins

The victory was Liverpool’s 21st straight victory in the English Premier League at Anfield. It broke Manchester City’s record of 20 straight wins in the competition. The Citizens had achieved the incredible run from March 2011 to March 2012.

Jurgen Klopp’s side has scored an incredible 61 goals while conceding just 14 on this run. Apart from breaking other teams’ records, Klopp’s Reds also went ahead and matched the English top-flight record set in 1972 by none other than Bill Shankly’s own Redmen. The chances of this team surpassing that feat is definitely on the cards when Liverpool take on Bournemouth in the next home fixture on March 7th

2. The club record for most consecutive wins from the beginning of the season

This was Liverpool’s 14th straight win at home this season in the English Premier League. The Reds have beaten the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City to get this far.

This tally equals the all-time club record of winning the opening 14 home league games of a season. It was set all the way back in 1893-94 when the Reds won all 14 of their home games. It has taken 127 years and a special team to get to match this record.

Liverpool have every chance of extending this streak given they face four bottom table teams in their last five home matches of the season. The Reds return to action at Anfield against Bournemouth next.

The Reds also equaled the club record for most home wins in the EPL that they had set the previous season.

3. Most consecutive wins in the English Premier League

The Reds have now equaled the run of 18 straight wins in the Premier League. That record is currently held by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side who won 18 on the trot as they finished Centurions in the 2017-18 season.

Liverpool had an earlier opportunity to match City’s tally at Old Trafford this season. However, a 1-1 draw proved to be a spoilsport. Incredibly the Reds have gone on to break the record at the first time asking as they have not dropped any points since the draw at Old Trafford.

Liverpool could extend the run to 19 games when they face Watford at Vicarage Road on the 29th of this month.

4. Trent Alexander-Arnold equals own record for most assists by a full-back

Trent looked to have his crossing shoes on again as he ended the night with two assists. A tally that could have been three had Mane’s goal stood.

The Liverpudlian incredibly equaled his own record of 12 assists set last season, this time with 11 games still to go. You wouldn’t put it past him to break the record given his panache for delivering pinpoint crosses.
