Liverpool youngster Elijah Dixon-Bonner faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he damaged his knee ligaments, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The 19-year-old suffered the injury while playing for the Liverpool Under-23 side against Huddersfield Town last week. Reds Under-23 coach Neil Critchley is hopeful that the youngster will be available before the end of the season.
Having joined the Liverpool Academy from Arsenal in 2015, Dixon-Bonner was a part of the side that won the FA Youth Cup last season. He has made the step up to the U23s this season, where he has been a regular.
Speaking on the player’s injury, Neil Critchley confirmed that the 19-year-old has indeed damaged the ligaments in his knee will be ruled out for a number of weeks.
“It’s really disappointing to us and not nice to see.
The coach praised the player for his performances this season and reiterated his belief to see him back in action before the summer. Critchley revealed that the player is aware of his predicament and knows he will have to spend some time in the gym.
“He is mentally a very strong boy.”
Dixon-Bonner was on the bench for the Carabao Cup defeat at Aston Villa and featured in all three group games in the EFL Trophy, where he was twice named the captain. He also scored in the 5-2 defeat at Accrington Stanley.
The youngster has also played in all six of Liverpool’s UEFA Youth League fixtures. He contributed one goal and two assists as Liverpool won their group to progress to the last 16.
