Andrew Robertson opens up on Liverpool’s Premier League campaign
Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has opened up on the Reds’ remarkable Premier League campaign as they attempt to win their first league title in 30 years. The Scotsman believes that the chance of creating history has kept the team going, according to The Athletic (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The Reds are currently 22 points clear of Manchester City in the league with just 12 more points needed to guarantee the title. In spite of the commanding lead, the Reds have not eased off. Liverpool trailed2-1 at Anfield to West Ham before rallying to a 3-2 win.
As Robertson explained, it was just another example of Liverpool’s ability to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. The 25-year-old will be well aware of it, having triggered a similar victory away at Villa Park earlier in the season.
Speaking of the game against the Hammers, Robertson admitted that David Moyes’ side did cause the Reds problems on the set-pieces. But the Reds’ collective effort came through as they try to achieve something that has not been done before.
The 25-year-old praised the effort from his team. He declared that irrespective of the quality, the work rate will always be top-notch and that the Reds will continue to create chances, according to The Athletic (h/t Liverpool Echo).
Records tumble as Reds enter illustrious company
The victory extended Liverpool’s unbeaten run to 44 games while also equalling the English record of 21 straight home wins set by Bill Shankley’s Liverpool in 1972. Illustrious company to say the least. The Reds are also in line to pull away from Manchester City’s record of 18 straight wins when they face Watford on Saturday.
Robertson in no uncertain terms believes that these records, however, pale in significance to winning the English Premier League.
“When you wrack up the number of points that we’ve got then records are bound to come along,”
He reiterated the team’s desire to focus on winning the league. Robertson goes on to state that it is possible that records could continue to tumble as the Reds charge towards the title.
But even if they miss out on any, the players will not mind it much as long as they end up champions, according to The Athletic (h/t Liverpool Echo).
