Twitter reacts to Dejan Lovren’s performance against Watford
It was a night to forget for Liverpool fans, even for the players as a determined Watford made a mockery of the club’s unbeaten run.
The stars aligned perfectly for the Hornets as they made short work of a lethargic Liverpool side. In a match where a number of players failed to turn up, some familiar names cropped up more often than not.
Dejan Lovren, starting in place of Joe Gomez once again took the brunt of blame as Liverpool fans lashed out at the Croatian defender.
To be fair, none of the goals was his fault. At least not directly. Granted, he could have done better for the first, but you get the feeling that the player’s reputation takes precedence over objectivity.
Lovren is a soft target, given his past transgressions and found himself on the receiving end again. A number of Liverpool fans took to Twitter to lambast the player’s performance. His case will not have been helped by Troy Deeney admitting that Watford targetted the Croatian as the weak link in the Reds defence.
Ironical considering it was Virgil van Dijk whose mistake led to Ismaila Sarr’s second of the night and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose misplaced pass led to Watford’s third.
Ultimately, it is up to one personally to take stock of whether the Croatian should take the blame or not.
We look at some of the reactions on Twitter below.

If any club offers more than £3.60 for Dejan Lovren this summer, I hope we take it. It’s just that familiar feeling of doubt and nervousness when you see him on the team sheet, and weirdly enough I think he feels it too

Only City 0-5 after Mané Red Card and the famous Lovren game away at Spurs have seen Liverpool lose by larger XG under Klopp
252 games.
One fella present in 9 of the worst 10 of Klopp’s tenure

Probably our second worst performance under Klopp. Spurs 4-1 tops this still somehow. Funnily enough, Lovren had a fucking shocker in both games.

Invincible season still on, you really think I’m counting a game Lovren starts in??

Virgil won 100% of his aerial duels. 90% pass completion, including one key pass. No errors.
Next to him Lovren only won 46% of his aerial duels. Made DOZENS of errors leaping out of position and missing balls.
Virgil spent the game tidying up his mess.

I just asked Dejan Lovren if he feels guilty about the defeat. He said What do you mean? I said Well we probably wouldn’t have lost if Joe Gomez was playing instead. He said NOT NOW JAMES.
