Liverpool given Jordan Henderson hope for Atletico Madrid clash

According to Daily Star, Jordan Henderson is nearing a return and could make it for the crunch UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid next week.

The skipper’s return will come as a sigh of relief for fans who have seen the midfield crumble in the 29-year-old’s absence. The Reds midfield has failed to exert control in every game since in the midfielder’s absence, having lost two of the three games since.

A pivotal cog in the Liverpool system, Henderson not only connects the defence and the attack but is also enjoying one of his best seasons in front of goal, having scored thrice and assisted five more. He leads from the front as the Reds overcame tough challenges against Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers this season.

According to the report, the midfielder has stepped up his efforts as he plots a return to the must-win tie at Anfield.

Henderson’s absence has gained more gravitas following Fabinho’s poor run of form. The Brazilian seems a shadow of his former self and with no Henderson with him for cover, the reds midfield has failed to impact the games significantly.

Jordan Henderson will add discipline to the Liverpool midfield

Speaking to the press prior to the game against Bournemouth, Klopp admitted that the skipper is close to a return.

Henderson has led from the front and rallied his troops numerous times as Liverpool chased a game. His organization and ability to make others around him better have contributed to an excellent season where the Reds have been almost unstoppable in the league.

The Reds will need his astute leadership against a tough Atletico side that is hard to crack. His return will lift the spirit of the team who have lost Alisson Becker to a muscle injury.
