Jurgen Klopp and Andrew Robertson lay praise on Anfield atmosphere

Anfield is a legendary stadium and one of European football’s most storied venues. The legends of the arena’s atmosphere have more than once swung the pendulum in Liverpool’s favour and the Reds will hope it does so once again against Atletico Madrid.

Speaking to the press ahead of the match, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has touched upon the effect that the fans can have on the match. He also admitted that regardless of the excellent support, the players will still have to perform on the pitch.

“Our crowd will be our advantage and we have to use it with the performance on the pitch.”

Klopp spoke of the danger Atletico pose and asserted that his side will have to be at their best to prevent the Spaniards from taking advantage of any slip-ups. Not many of Diego Simeone’s players have played at Anfield and Klopp hopes this will work to Liverpool’s advantage.

“But not a lot of them (Atletico) have played at Anfield before and that is what we want to use.”

Liverpool have not lost a two-legged tie under Klopp and will look to keep the streak going. Atletico will be the third side to come to Anfield with a lead during the German’s tenure.

Villarreal arrived at Anfield in the Europea League semi-finals with a 1-0 lead, only to lose 3-1 while Barcelona famously blew a three-goal lead to lose 4-3 on aggregate last season.

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson also pitched in on the topic by praising the supporters for their efforts. He admitted that the supporters do make a difference but cautioned against taking it for granted.

He stressed on the need for everyone to be 100% and give it their all from the start. The Scotsman missed Liverpool’s victory over Bournemouth with an injury and is expected to be fit enough to start tomorrow.

“Hopefully we can get off to a fast start and get the fans behind us.”
