Transfer news: Liverpool could sign 27-goal Bundesliga star and loan him back for next season

Liverpool could loan Timo Werner back to Leipzig this summer

According to the Express, Liverpool are keen to activate the release clause of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, only to send him back on loan for another year in the Bundesliga.

It is a rather queer decision considering the Reds will miss Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane during the Africa Cup of Nations next January. Salah is also expected to miss the start of the season owing to his participation in the Summer Olympics

.

Liverpool have a vaunted front three who are unmistakenly world-class. The quality, however, reduces significantly as we move down the pecking order. Having a player of Werner’s capability come in only for him to not contribute is strange, to say the least.

Timo Werner is one of Europe’s deadliest strikers

The 23-year-old has made it no secret of his desire to move to Merseyside and has spoken of the Reds in glowing terms a number of times. The addition of Werner will also give Klopp the ability to rotate his front three without having to worry about a significant drop in quality.

Speaking to Sky Germany (h/t Express), Werner spoke of his desire to play for a big team. He believes that he is ready and also admitted the pressure of winning at these clubs.

“I think that I have the potential and possibilities to play for a big team.”

Timo Werner has impressed for Leipzig this season

Werner has scored 27 goals and 11 assists in 35 appearances so far this season. His goals have given Leipzig the necessary ammo for a title charge against Bayern Munich, while also advancing the team’s cause in the UEFA Champions League.

The 23-year-old was on target as the Germans beat Spurs in North London. Werner scored from the penalty spot to send his side 1-0 up after a period of sustained dominance in the match.

Werner is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline and is a player full of hunger and pace. He will make an excellent signing for the Reds if we manage to pull it off.
