Injury update: Boost for Liverpool as key star resumes training ahead of Atletico Madrid clash

Jordan Henderson has resumed training ahead of Atletico Madrid clash

In a major boost for Liverpool, captain Jordan Henderson has resumed full training leading up to the crunch UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid at Anfield.

According to Liverpoolfc.com, Jurgen Klopp confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the skipper is in contention for the match, also confirming that Alisson Becker will miss both the matches against Atletico and Everton.

Liverpool have looked a shadow of themselves in the absence of Henderson and his return will add much-needed leadership and organization to the middle of the park.

Jordan Henderson returned to full training

The Reds midfield has been bypassed far too often in the past few weeks, with the team unable to get a stranglehold on the match. Henderson has led from the front and has time and again helped the Reds win the midfield battles early on.

The Reds got back to winning ways against Bournemouth and will be glad to go into the match having ended their losing streak. The return of the skipper will also have lifted the dressing room morale as the Reds look to harness the power of Anfield once again.

Henderson has enjoyed a fine personal season and has been talked of as a prospective candidate for the PFA Player of the year award. Although not the most stylish nor technically sound, Henderson is a player who gets the best out of others, improving the team as a whole.

The difference he makes in the Reds midfield was apparent during his absence against West Ham United, Watford, Chelsea and Bournemouth.

Liverpool are just six points away from securing the league and the 29-year-old could make history as the first Liverpool captain to lift the Premier League trophy. He will also become just the fourth Liverpool captain in history and the first since Graeme Souness to lift both the European Cup/Champions League and the league with the Reds.
