Extended season could lead to Liverpool lifting their historic 19th title in new Nike kit

Liverpool could lift the English Premier League in new Nike kit

It has not been a good year for New Balance. Not only did they lose out to Nike to produce Liverpool’s new kit but it now seems like their chance to go out with a bang could go up in smoke.

As revealed by reliable Liverpool correspondent James Pearce of the Athletic, an extended season could see the Reds garbed in their new Nike kits as they lift a historic 19th title.

Liverpool’s association with New Balance runs until June before the bumper £70million-per-season

deal with Nike comes into play. With the season currently suspended until at least April 3, the possibility of the league being extended is a possibility.

Uncertain future

Jurgen Klopp’s side were supposed to end their season on May 17 at the St. James Park against Newcastle United. The Reds were supposed to play Everton yesterday and Crystal Palace in the coming week. With at least two matches now needing rescheduling, it highly unlikely that the season can be ended before June.

Following the protracted legal saga

involving New Balance and Nike, the Reds had revealed that their relationship with the current kit manufacturers have reached a point of no return.

The American-based company have been manufacturing Liverpool’s kits since 2015, taking over from their subsidiary Warrior Sports who had been Liverpool’s kit suppliers since 2012.

A proper sendoff

The Reds were the jewel in the crown as the conglomerate aimed to expand into football. They were extremely keen to extend their association with the club, more so given our recent success.

Having the club lift the Premier League in their New Balance kit would have been a fitting hurrah for the company, who have produced a number of memorable kits down the years.

This season’s kit would have gone down in Liverpool history given this season ends our long league drought. All that now looks to be in threat due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It remains to be seen how the club handles such a scenario if it comes to pass and if there are any legal repercussions.
