According to various sources (h/t Mirror), Liverpool are keeping tabs on a trio of Bundesliga stars going into the summer transfer window. This includes Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to add to his squad to improve upon the success that the Reds have achieved over the last two seasons. The losses to Chelsea in the FA Cup and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League have showcased that our squad could do with a few more additions in order to compete on different fronts.
Liverpool are currently 25 points clear of Manchester City and can use this leverage to attract elite talent over the summer.
As reported by the Athletic (h/t Mirror), the Reds have overtaken Chelsea in the race for German ace Timo Werner. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season for Leipzig and has scored 27 goals and 12 assists in 36 appearances this season. His ability was on show as the Germans effortlessly brushed away a struggling Tottenham Hotspur side in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Werner has spoken openly about his admiration for Liverpool and the Reds have been linked with a move for the player for a while now. They are now overwhelming favourites and have convinced Chelsea to look elsewhere for a striker.
The Reds are also keen on Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey according to the Daily Express (h/t Mirror). The 22-year-old can provide backup to Mohamed Salah while is also young enough to be an option for the future.
Liverpool face competition from Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. Bailey has scored seven goals and one assist in 22 appearances for the Die Werkself this season.
The Merseysiders are also keen on Gladbach’s defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria. According to Sky Germany (h/t Mirror), Gladbach are confident of keeping the player if they qualify for the Champions League.
The versatile midfielder is capable of playing in a variety of positions. His ability to do so will be a boon to Klopp, helping him explore different options.
With the Premier League suspended till April 3, the effect it can have on the transfer window is still uncertain. The Reds will do well to steal a march on their rivals when the season finally resumes.
