Liverpool not to be crowned champions if season is declared null and void
According to the Express, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has clarified that Liverpool will not be crowned Premier League champions if the season is declared null and void.
Following the coronavirus pandemic, the English football season stands suspended until April 3 at the earliest. There is no guarantee that the season will resume on the date. It has cast doubt on whether the season can be completed.
In light of the current scenario, UEFA took the decision to postpone the Euros to next year and have given national associations time until June 30 to finish the season.
In spite of the extended timeframe, there are suggestions that the season could go unfinished. This has led to unsubstantiated reports that the governing body has instructed the concerned nations to declare the team at the top of the table as champions if the season is called off.
Ceferin has put an end to the speculation and has reiterated the organization’s commitment in ensuring that the season is completed as soon as possible.
Liverpool are currently 25 points clear at the top of the table and are in a unique position compared to the league leaders in other nations. With just six more points standing between the Reds and their maiden Premier League title, it is more of a question of when.
In spite of the commanding lead, Ceferin insists that the Reds will not be declared champions unless the season is completed.
“Our goal is to finish the leagues and we didn’t recommend anything like that to any association or any league.”

Liverpool have been utterly dominant in the league and have broken a number of records on their incredible run. It would be a travesty to deny the team the title in spite of pretty much having it in the bag.
Liverpool fans will not ask for the title to be handed over, but rather have the season finished even if it means that the next season gets delayed. Anything other than that should be considered a grave injustice.
