In an excellent gesture, Liverpool Football Club will continue to pay all casual matchday workers in spite of the club’s last three home matches being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This was revealed by journalist Ian Doyle, Chief Liverpool correspondent at the Liverpool Echo. He took to Twitter to reveal the club’s generous gesture.
The news will come as a source of great comfort for the workers who will obtain a semblance of financial stability in these uncertain times. This gesture can see the Reds pay out as much as £750,000
to meet their obligations. With the pandemic on the rise, the decision was taken to initially suspend all matches until April 3. The suspension has now been extended to April 30, with the Reds set to return to action against Arsenal on May 2.
Among the games suspended are three home fixtures against Crystal Palace, Burnley and Aston Villa. Any worries that the staff will have had on the prolonged six weeks of unemployment have been put to rest.
Liverpool are committed to paying their staff during this break in play. All workers will be given their full wage for each of the matches that were scheduled to take place at home between now and the resumption of the season.
As an added bonus, these workers will also be paid when the matches eventually take place. This is expected to cost the Reds around £200,000-£250,000 per match.
It is a commendable act by the club who have taken care to ensure that their employees are looked after.
The Reds are currently six points away from winning the league title. The Premier League is committed to completing the season and have revealed that the next season will not start until the current one is done. This should come as promising news to the Reds whose title chances were shrouded in uncertainty.
