Only two Liverpool players make the cut in Garth Crooks’ Team of the Season

As reported by the Mirror, BBC pundit Garth Crooks’ Team of the Season so far, worked out based on the number of appearances of players in his Team of the Week columns for BBC, features only two Liverpool players!

Crooks, a former Tottenham and West Brom star, picks his Team of the Week after each Premier League gameweek. And Reddit user u/yeskevinlad has formulated what Crooks’ Team of the Season would have looked like based on the number of times a player has been selected in a specific position in his Team of the Week articles. And according to the analysis, just two Liverpool players make the cut into the side despite our domination in the Premier League this season. Our defensive mainstay Virgil van Dijk is included and star forward Sadio Mane makes it to the side.

Van Dijk and Sadio Mane are the joint second-most selected players in Crooks’ Team of the Week, having featured seven times each. Only Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne has been selected more often (11).

As far as the rest of Crooks’ Team of the Season goes, City’s Ederson features in goal, while Harry Maguire, Gary Cahill and Fernandinho feature alongside Van Dijk in defence. The midfield is made up of De Bruyne along with Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, who has only played five league games so far.

Finally, the attack sees the top two goalscorers in the league – Jamie Vardy and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang forming the trident alongside Mane.

Surprisingly, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is enjoying a fine season, does not feature in the team and neither does Mohamed Salah.
