Liverpool keen on impressive Valencia winger Ferran Torres

According to the Mirror, Liverpool will go head to head against Real Madrid and Barcelona in their attempts to sign Valencia winger Ferran Torres.

The impressive 20-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season at the Mestalla, Torres has scored 6 goals and 7 assists in 35 appearances for the club.

The Spanish Under-21 star is a versatile attacker who can play anywhere along the front line. Torres came through the youth ranks at Valencia before making his first-team debut in 2017. He has since scored 9 goals and 11 assists in 88 appearances for the Los Ches.

What stood out this season was his ability to shine at the highest level. He has scored twice and assisted two more in the Champions League. He was particularly impressive in the thrilling 3-4 loss to Atalanta in the round of 16-second leg.

In spite of being on the losing side, he scored and assisted a goal piece in an excellent personal performance. He is now an important cog in the Valencia lineup.

Torres’s contract at the Mestalla runs till 2021. Valencia are hopeful they can persuade the forward to sign a new contract. They are protected by a release clause which is as high as €90million.

If a deal cannot be agreed upon, then he is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club on a free transfer in 2021. Getting a player of his quality for free will undoubtedly be a steal of massive proportions. Apart from the Spanish giants, Manchester City and Juventus are also keen to land the youngster.

Although Liverpool have a world-class front three, they lack capable backups to bring in when needed. Torres isn’t yet ready to replace our trio, but would make for a promising option to be off the bench.

The Reds have scouted the player a number of times this season both on club and international duty. It remains to be seen if a move is made this summer.
