Paul Ince believes Liverpool being denied title will cause uproar
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Liverpool’s charge to the club’s first league title in 30 years has been brought into disarray.
There have been a number of calls from various sections demanding the season be declared null and void. Former Liverpool and Manchester United star Paul Ince believes that denying Reds the title will lead to ‘uproar’ on Merseyside.
Ince believes that the concerned authorities must permit the league to reach its natural conclusion. He also went on to admit that it is not possible to please everyone.
“Can you imagine 30 years of waiting to win the season and, when you’re on the brink, they end up making the season null and void?”
Ince stated that there are just nine games to go into the season and efforts must be made to finish the season when possible. Games can be played behind closed doors if necessary, with a lot at stake not just for the Reds.
With as many as eight teams in or around the relegation dogfight, the identity of those going down is also currently up in the air. Any decision to void the season will have implications on a number of teams.
Premier League clubs are due to meet again on Friday. According to the report, it is almost certain the current postponement of all matches until April 30 will be extended again.
“We don’t know how long this is going to last for but making it null and void doesn’t make sense.”
Decisions already made
The FA had recently taken the decision to void all leagues from the third tier downwards. So far, a decision is to be reached regarding the Premiership and the Championship.
As many as 30 clubs are willing to challenge the decision while the FA remains determined to complete the Women’s Super League season if the campaign is over by early August.
