Usually, the winners are presented with the title on their final home game of the season. This would have meant that our team would have been handed the trophy against Chelsea on May 10.
However, with growing uncertainties due to the pandemic, the Premier League was considering handing the title to Liverpool on March 21 at Anfield. At the time when discussions over this possibility were held, Klopp’s team needed just two victories to lift their first-ever Premier League title.
Had Jurgen Klopp’s side beaten Everton on March 16 and then defeated Crystal Palace the following Saturday, on 21st March, the Reds would have ended their 30-year wait for the league title.
And the Premier League were considering to present our team with the trophy on the same day in order to enable them to celebrate their coronation with their supporters. (h/t Mirror
)However, the Premier League was suspended immediately after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for coronavirus. Initially pushed back till the first week of April, the league is now suspended till the end of April. (h/t Mirror)
As things stand, there is no guarantee if the Premier League will resume. But there is some hope for the Reds as there are plans to restart the season in July, with the remaining matches set to be played behind closed doors. (h/t Liverpool Echo
)Liverpool have opened up a 25-point lead on current title holders Manchester City, losing just one game over the course of the season.
