According to the Liverpool Echo, the foundation of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has donated £5,000 to help food banks in the city.
The Rangers manager is a club legend and a hero on the pitch for the better part of a decade and a half. With the pandemic threatening to cripple foodbanks, he has once again stepped up to make a difference.
The gesture was a response to the LFC Emergency Foodbank Appeal. Its aim is to help support food banks serving vulnerable people in Liverpool and the rest of Merseyside.
Liverpool launched the appeal last week to give people an opportunity to make a charitable donation. This will help support the Trussell Trust Foodbank network, which provides emergency assistance to people living in food poverty.
“On behalf of my Foundation, I am proud to make this donation to the LFC Emergency Foodbank Appeal to support those who need it most”
Gerrard has stressed on the importance of keeping the foodbanks functioning. They provide a lifeline for a number of people and keeping them afloat becomes important especially in times of crisis such as now.
He stressed on the importance of donations, irrespective of the denomination. Every contribution makes a difference and will go a long way in providing essential services for those that need it the most.
The total donation to the Reds’ Emergency Foodbank Appeal has so far crossed £13,000. This will help provide over 800 three-day emergency food parcels. You can also donate to the LFC Emergency Foodbank Appeal via Liverpool’s and LFC Foundation’s official Facebook pages.
The club alongside the LFC Foundation and Red Neighbours also pledged £40,000 to back Fans Supporting Foodbanks in the absence of Premier League football. The club also launched an initiative known as LFC Connect. Its aim is to encourage elderly people around the community to keep in touch and share any issues or worries they have.
