Liverpool on course for title win after Premier League’s latest statement

Liverpool set for title win after latest Premier League statement

Liverpool are on track to end the club’s 30-year-old wait for a league title after Premier League clubs reiterated their commitment to conclude the 2019-20 season, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds have enjoyed an excellent campaign in the Premier League. Our side is sitting comfortably at the top of the table, with a near-unassailable 25-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.

But our first-ever Premier League title triumph was cast in doubts after the season was suspended last month due to the coronavirus pandemic. Initially, the competition was put off till April 4, which was then pushed to April 30 (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Liverpool have been the best team in the land this season

There have been calls from some quarters to call off the season and declare it null and void (h/t Daily Mail). However, the Premier League clubs have reaffirmed their intentions to see the campaign through, although any resumption has been pushed back further.

After a meeting on Friday involving all stakeholders, the Premier League released a statement claiming that the season will return only when it is completely safe and appropriate to do so, while also insisting that everyone involved is determined to see the season completed (h/t Liverpool Echo).

“With this, there is a combined objective for all remaining domestic league and cup matches to be played, enabling us to maintain the integrity of each competition.”

We are just two wins away from being crowned the Premier League champions. And with the league, the clubs and other stakeholders intent on seeing the campaign through, this surely comes as a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp & co.
