Jurgen Klopp likened to Liverpool legend Bill Shankly by Graeme Souness

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been compared to the legendary Bill Shankly by former Reds midfielder Graeme Souness (h/t Sky Sports).

Klopp came in at Liverpool in October 2015 and has done a spectacular job at Anfield. The German tactician led the team to UEFA Champions League triumph last season and has masterminded a sensational campaign this time out that could see our 30-year long wait for a league title finally end.

Given the heights we have achieved under Jurgen, he is likely to go down as one of the best managers in the club’s history. And former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has likened the former Borussia Dortmund manager to the legendary Bill Shankly (h/t Sky Sports).

Shankly managed Liverpool for 15 years between 1959 and 1974. The Scotsman is one of the biggest reasons behind the rich history of our club. Under him, the Reds won three first division titles, two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup.

And Souness, who spent seven years at the club immediately after the Shankly era, sees a lot of similarities between the Scotsman and our current manager. In a column for Sky Sports

“Jurgen is more like Shankly, who was a great communicator, a showman and the leader of the pack.”

Souness further added that Klopp is very much different in character to two of our former managers, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan. The former midfielder also claimed that the German tactician has built a team that could go on to play together and dominate the scenes for five more years, adding that he deserves great credit for the work he has done (h/t Sky Sports).

Klopp has truly done a wonderful job during his time at Anfield and the fact that he recently signed a new contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at our club till 2024 (h/t BBC), fills us with great optimism for what lies ahead.
