Liverpool players to honour the Hillsborough victims from home on 31st anniversary

Liverpool players and staff to maintain a minute’s silence from home in memory of Hillsborough victims

According to Daily Star, Liverpool players and staff will hold a minute’s silence in their homes to mark the 31st anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster this Wednesday.

The Hillsborough Family Support Group were due to hold the final memorial service at Anfield this year. This has, however, been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is set to be rescheduled once it is safe to do so.

Margaret Aspinall, chair of the HFSG thanked everyone for their understanding of the matter and promised to update supporters once the rescheduled date is finalized.

“I would also ask that you join us in our prayers on April 15 to remember the 96 and keep the families and everyone who has been affected in your thoughts at this difficult time.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his players will also do their bit to show respect to the departed. Players and staff will hold a minute of silence as they continue to train from home. The club has also confirmed

that the club flags will be flown at half-mast at the various club facilities.

Liverpool also called upon their supporters to come together in spirit and remember the 96, their families, survivors and everyone else impacted by the disaster. The first-team squad laid wreaths outside Anfield to mark the 30th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster last season.

The Hillsborough disaster is the UK’s worst sporting disaster. It led to a number of safety improvements in English football grounds, including the elimination of fenced standing terraces in favour of all-seater stadiums in the top two tiers of English football.
