[Video] Liverpool Sporting Director Edwards shows off his footballing skills and it’s brilliant

Michael Edwards takes part in #Homegoals challenge

Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards took to Twitter to post a video of him taking up the home goals challenge set up by Reds youngster Curtis Jones.

Jones challenged just about anyone to recreate his wonder strike against Everton earlier in the season. Participants were free to attempt it anywhere as long as it took place at home.

The initiative was aimed to spread awareness about staying indoors and maintain social distancing at this difficult time. You can witness Edwards’ effort in the video below.

Among those who took part was transfer guru Edwards. As head of recruitment, Edwards is responsible for Liverpool’s impressive recent showing in the transfer windows.

Edwards looked at home as he slotted the ball into the top corner before wheeling off to perform a Ronaldo-like celebration. If anything, he is the Ronaldo of the transfer market. He also urged everyone to stay home, stay safe and to protect the NHS.

The man behind the bat-mask

A notoriously low-key figure, the fact that he put up a video of himself is surprising. But when you have pored over data and videos of players you bring in, how can you not resist showing off picking up a trick or two.

Edwards joined Liverpool in 2011. He was brought in to work alongside director of research Ian Graham as FSG looked to implement the Moneyball approach to football.

Michael Edwards does not even have a Wikipedia page

He took over as sporting director in 2016 and has since made a slew of transfers that has benefitted the club immeasurably.

A private figure, Edwards prefers to let his work do the talking for him. Given that the world is now aware of his footballing skills, Jurgen Klopp now has another name to bring on in case he needs a late goal.

Just to remind everyone of Edwards’ message- “Stay Home, Stay Safe and protect the NHS”
