Transfer boost for Liverpool as Bundesliga club’s sporting director makes admission

Kai Havertz tipped to leave Leverkusen amidst Liverpool interest

According to the Express, Liverpool target Kai Havertz has been tipped to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer by sporting director Simon Rolfes.

The 20-year-old is a seasoned campaigner despite his age and had drawn interest from a number of top sides. Havertz has already made 139 appearances for Leverkusen and has scored 38 goals and 30 assists.

Jurgen Klopp will, however, have to beat away interest from London duo Arsenal and Chelsea. The Blues are proving to be a thorn in our side by also being in the race to sign Timo Werner.

Klopp’s wishes will be boosted by the comments made by Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes, who revealed that he will not stand in the 20-year-old’s way if he requests a move.

“It’s a logical development that Kai will leave Leverkusen at some point,”

The transfer market is unlikely to be extravagant given the financial fallout of the coronavirus shutdown. Leverkusen value Havertz at £90million and it remains to be seen if they will still hold onto that number. With his contract with the Bundesliga side running until 2022, Leverkusen has a strong hand in any negotiations.

A youth revolution on the cards?

Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum are about to turn 30. The number of midfielders at the club in the age group will be three if you also consider James Milner. Naby Keita has looked a shadow of the player he was at Leipzig and has failed to impress. Although injuries have severely limited his appearances, it is safe to say that he hasn’t reached anywhere close to what was expected of him.

Havertz is a young, motivated player who has bags of potential. He suits Liverpool’s transfer policy to the tee and is one of Europe’s top talents.

Liverpool are probably the best team in Europe and the world at the moment. Jurgen Klopp is known for nurturing youngsters into world-class players. It remains to be seen if Havertz will be the next name to be added to that list.
