Xherdan Shaqiri must drop two key demands to complete Roma switch
According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri must compromise on two of his demands in order to complete a move to Serie A side, Roma.
The Italians were linked with a move for Shaqiri back in January. Jurgen Klopp, however, refused to sanction a deal for any of his first-team stars until the season is completed.
The 28-year-old has made just 10 appearances this season, most of them coming as cameos. He has played the whole 90 minutes just once. This came in the impressive 5-2 win against Everton at Anfield in December. The 28-year-old put up a fine performance on the night and even grabbed a well-worked goal.
His time at Liverpool could be coming to an end. Shaqiri currently earns €6million a year at Anfield, a figure inclusive of wages and bonuses.
He will, however, have to considerably reduce his wage demands if is keen to end up at the Stadio Olimpico. The Italians will not be able to afford the player’s wages otherwise.
The Swiss international has three years left on his Liverpool deal. He has, however, been informed that he can leave the club.
He will also have to put aside his demand of Champions League football if a move to Roma has to materialize. The Italians are currently fifth in the table, three points behind Atalanta. There is a real possibility that they may end up missing out on the top four.
With the coronavirus crisis especially acute in Italy, what happens to the season is anybody’s guess.

Shaqiri has been an astute signing by Liverpool. He enjoyed an impressive debut season at Anfield and made a number of key contributions.
His match-winning cameo off the bench against Manchester United will live long in the memory of fans and also Jose Mourinho, who was sacked not soon after. Unfortunately, Shaqiri’s time at the club seems to be coming to an end and he will be better served making a move elsewhere.
