Liverpool can save millions on transfer of 24-year-old German ace if this thing happens

Liverpool could snap up Timo Werner for cheap if RB Leipzig fail to overtake Bayern Munich

According to the Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express), Liverpool have received a boost in their race to sign Bundesliga ace Timo Werner in the upcoming window.

The 24-year-old’s asking price could drop by millions if RB Leipzig fail to win the Bundesliga. Currently, in third, five points behind leader Bayern Munich, there is every chance of them coming up short. (h/t Express)

Whilst a tragedy for the Germans, it will be celebrations at Liverpool who can snap the player for £44m. It represents a reduction from the player’s current buyout clause valued at £52m.

Timo Werner is one of Europe’s deadliest strikers

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp remains an admirer of his countryman who has plundered in 27 goals and 12 assists in 36 appearances so far this season.

That interest has been openly reciprocated by the 24-year-old who is keen to make the switch to Anfield. He has already described his desire to play under the charismatic German, who he termed the best manager in the world.

It was recently reported by Melissa Reddy of the Independent that the Reds are set to have a quiet summer unless an unforeseen emergency forces their hand. Although the club remains interested in Werner, the financial implications of the coronavirus crisis has thrown a spanner into the club’s transfer plans.

Timo Werner is linked to Liverpool

Liverpool are set to stay loyal to the recruitment strategy that has taken them to the top of English and European football. The intent will be to look for value rather than to splurge this summer.

It remains to be seen if the news of the potential drop in the player’s value will rekindle our interest. We will, however, have to move quickly with Chelsea, Manchester United, and possibly Inter Milan all interested. (h/t Express

Werner has shown he has the ability to compete alongside the best. At just 24, he has the potential to get so much better in the coming years.

Both the club and the player are keen on a switch. Hopefully, news of the reduced price will force Liverpool’s hand into making their move.
