RB Leipzig using Naby Keita to dissuade Timo Werner from Liverpool move
According to the Express, RB Leipzig are using the fate suffered by Naby Keita as inspiration to convince Timo Werner from joining Liverpool in the upcoming window.
However, this has done little to dissuade the ace striker who has his sights set on moving to Merseyside. In spite of their best efforts, the German club have been powerless in trying to change the 24-year-old’s mind.
Werner had earlier committed his future to Leipzig until the end of the season. This has not dissuaded him from planning his next move as he openly flirted with the idea of playing under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Werner has been in fine form in the 2019/20 campaign. The German, who turned 24 last month, has plundered an impressive 27 goals and 12 assists in 36 matches across all competitions for Leipzig. They have helped Die Rotten Bullen push for both the Bundesliga title and the Champions League.
Given the effect he has had, it is no surprise that Leipzig is keen to keep hold of their ace. The same was confirmed by Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche recently claimed it’s likely that Werner stays put.
The Germans have an excellent relationship with Liverpool following the Naby Keita transfer. The Guinean joined Liverpool in a deal worth £53million in 2019, a year after agreeing to the transfer.
He has, however, failed to impose himself at Anfield following a spate of injuries and a loss of form. The midfielder’s fate has been used by Leipzig to beat home the point that the grass isn’t always green on the other side.
Leipzig committing Harakiri?
In a way, the argument could be considered to be a double-edged sword. In spite of his troubles, Liverpool have stuck by the Guinean and have continued to give him opportunities to impress.
There is no reason why the same faith wouldn’t be placed in Werner if he runs into difficulties at Anfield. The duo formed a good partnership at Leipzig and there is no reason why they cannot do the same for Liverpool. If anything, Werner could be Keita’s salvation.

Signing the German ace will give Klopp more options in the attack. With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and the aforementioned Naby Keita likely to miss a part of the season due to AFCON 2021, Werner could be set to play an important role at Anfield.
