Transfer News: Liverpool drop interest in one Bundesliga star to focus on another

Liverpool prioritize Timo Werner signing over Milot Rashica

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have dropped interest in Milot Rashica to focus on signing Timo Werner in the upcoming transfer window.

The Reds have considered both strikers and finally settled on signing the RB Leipzig ace. It will be the second player the Reds have signed from the Germans in recent years, following the Naby Keita capture in 2018.

The duo formed an excellent understanding during their time at Leipzig, something the Reds could reproduce at Anfield in the coming seasons.

Timo Werner will make the Liverpool attack a fearsome proposition

Rashica has enjoyed a fine season in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen. He has contributed 10 goals and five assists in 24 appearances in all competitions. This record, however, pales significantly with respect to Werner who plundered a whopping 27 goals and set up 12 more in just 36 matches.

It can be argued that the Kosovan’s tally is lesser owing to the fact that he plays predominantly on the left-wing. However, both players are extremely versatile and capable of playing anywhere along the frontline.

In spite of Rashica’s excellence, Werner is a class above his compatriot and a bonafide star. Although both would struggle to break into an already formidable attack, Werner’s quality should give him the edge. Add to it that he is keen to make a move, there is more in his favour.

Milot Rashica is excellent, but Timo Werner is better

Addition to the attack is key, with the Reds too dependent on their front three for goals. The dearth of quality options behind our first-choice attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane is well-known.

Divock Origi has scored some important goals but hasn’t impressed enough, while Xherdan Shaqiri could be axed this summer.

Werner has been a prolific goalscorer for Die Rotten Bullen for the past few seasons. The fact that he can play on the flanks as well would be a massive advantage for us, especially with the prospect of us losing Sadio Mane and Mo Salah during the AFCON 2021.

Although Rashica can improve our options off the bench, Werner can help take us to the next level. The club have made the right choice.
