Liverpool target Daniel Kelly to be offered a new deal at Celtic
According to Lanarkshire Lice Sport (h/t Daily Record), Celtic are set to offer a bumper five-year contract to Daniel Kelly to stave off competition from Liverpool.
Kelly has starred for the Celtic youth sides right from the Under-15 to the Under-18 level. His talents were on show in the prestigious Sheffield Trophy. He was a part of a young Celts outfit that finished runners-up to MLS side Seattle Sounders.
Celtic are keen to hold onto the player and have offered him a pre-professional agreement. Kelly is a product of the St. Ninian’s High School program, the same that helped produce Kieran Tierney, Mikey Johnston, and Anthony Ralston among others.
The 14-year-old has been turning heads as he continues to progress up the age groups at Celtic Park. A number of our rivals are also aware, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester City, and Tottenham Hotspur all keen.
According to the report, the youngster will be presented with a five-year pre-professional contract. In 2018, he helped Celtic finish third in the Santander Cup behind Juventus and Barcelona. Kelly also scored in a 2-0 win over PSV Eindhoven and scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Liverpool. The latter brought him to the attention of Anfield scouts.
Youth the way forward!
Celtic have been keen on extending Kelly’s contract for some time now. The hope that the offer involving a long-term commitment will be enough to convince him.
If he does move to Anfield, he will join a number of promising youth starlets progressing up the ranks. The Reds have invested in youth and have a number of young talents coming through.
With the coronavirus pandemic set to affect transfer window ambitions, it would make sense to invest in youth. Kelly could as well turn out to be a gem if he progresses as expected.
