According to French publication Le10Sport (h/t Mirror), Manchester United have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore.
A product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, Traore has been one of Wolves’ best players this season. After years of showing promise, he has finally come into his own this season. The 24-year-old has scored 6 goals and 1o assists in 43 matches in all competitions this season.
His performances have also garnered interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich. The former have had a first-hand experience of the devastation he can cause. Traore was instrumental as Wolves completed a much deserved double over the defending champions this season.
Although Liverpool did do the double over the Molineux outfit, Andy Robertson found Traore too hot to handle. This led to him openly admitting that he had been “ripped apart” by the 24-year-old. Strong words from arguably the best left-back in the world today.
United have in recent windows done well in recruiting players. The likes of Bruno Fernandes have added much to an offense that has at times been too one dimensional. By adding Traore, we can take it further up a notch.
Although he can be inconsistent at times, his ability on the ball coupled with his physique makes him an overwhelming tour-de-force. Traore also has an excellent long shot in him and likes to run at the opposition defence.
At 24, he still can improve by leaps and bounds. If he keeps up the development he has shown at the Molineux, there is no reason why he cannot become one of the best attackers in the league.
Traore has three years left on his contract at the Molineux. Given the financial implications of the coronavirus crisis, it remains to be seen whether Wolves could afford to turn down a big offer for the player.
There is no doubt that Traore would add power and directness to the Liverpool attack. However, until he improves his consistency, it is always a risk. Whether it is something the club are willing to gamble on or not remains to be seen.
