Former Liverpool hero names the player Klopp should prioritize in the upcoming window

Emile Heskey picks Jadon Sancho as his first choice Liverpool signing

Speaking to GentingBet (h/t Metro), former Liverpool hero Emile Heskey has picked English wonderkid, Jadon Sancho, as his first choice Liverpool signing.

The 20-year-old is widely considered to be one of the best upcoming players in world football today. His decision to swap the Etihad for Signal Iduna Park has done wonders for his reputation.

He has gone from strength to strength at Borussia Dortmund and has notched up an impressive 17 goals and has provided 19 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions this season. (h/t Transfermarkt

Heskey believes the Reds will do better by signing a player who can shine on the wings. This has helped convince him that Sancho should be higher up the pecking order than other wonderkids Erling Braut Haaland

and Kylian Mbappe.

“I’d choose Sancho for Liverpool, out of the three.”

Another factor that helped swing Heskey’s decision is his English nationality. Sharing the same national allegiance as Sancho, Heskey was candid enough to admit his bias. There is, however, no doubting his logic as the 20-year-old would indeed set the Liverpool wing on fire.

“I would say someone like that would be great to get on the wing and terrorise defences.”

A financial hurdle

Considering the three names in question, either of them will suit the Reds just fine. They have gone from, strength to strength in recent months and have shown that their rise to the top is no flash in the pan.

Under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds are today a destination rather than stepping stone. Capable of outplaying any side, the Merseysiders are a tempting prospect for any player. Given the current financial landscape, whether Liverpool can afford Sancho or not is a question for another day.

Brought to the club by Gerard Houllier, Heskey spent four seasons at Anfield. A formidable presence upfront on his day, he formed an excellent partnership with Micheal Owen.

He eventually departed for Birmingham City, having scored 60 goals in 223 appearances for Liverpool.
