Arsenal join Liverpool in Thiago Alcantara chase

According to the Daily Mail (h/t Express), Liverpool will have to contend competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old Thiago is in the final year of his contract with the German champions and has no desire of signing a new deal. Liverpool have been credited with serious interest in the Spanish international, while it has also been claimed that the midfielder has also has his heart set on a move to Anfield.

However, there is a reluctance from Liverpool’s side to meet Bayern’s asking price of £27m, which has now opened the doors for Arsenal to make a move for the Spanish international. (h/t Express)

The Gunners have made an enquiry for the former Barcelona ace, however, have asked Bayern to lower their valuation for the Spaniard as well. In addition, the north London outfit will have to offload players before they are able to make a move for the 29-year-old. (h/t Express)

Liverpool have a packed midfield unit currently, despite the departure of Adam Lallana. However, a chance to sign someone as talented as Thiago shouldn’t be let go of. However, Jurgen Klopp might also have to cut some players from his squad in order to be able to sign the Barcelona academy product.

An alternative could be to wait either till January to sign him up on the cheap when he enters the last six months of his contract. Or we could even delay the move till the next year and snap him up on a free transfer, given that he is intent on moving to Anfield. (h/t Express)

There is no denying the quality that he will bring to the side, if we sign him. It remains to be seen if the club is prepared to go after him this summer or wait it out for a year.
