Gini Wijnaldum out, Thiago Alcantara in?
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool may opt to sacrifice midfield mainstay Georginio Wijnaldum in order to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich this summer.
The 29-year-old Wijnaldum has been with Liverpool since 2016, having arrived from Newcastle United. The Dutchman has grown into an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side, playing key roles in the UEFA Champions League triumph in 2018/19 and the Premier League in 2019/20.
However, Wijnaldum’s contract with Liverpool expires in less than a year. And talks over a new deal are yet to begin. Now, The Telegraph is claiming that the Reds may not offer him a new deal at all. This would see him leave the club on a free transfer a year later.
Instead, there is a chance that he could be sacrificed in order to make room for Bayern Munich superstar Thiago. (h/t The Telegraph)
Like Wijnaldum, the Spaniard is in the final year of his deal with the German and European champions. And, he has no intentions of signing a new contract. In fact, it has even been claimed that the former Barcelona ace is keen on earning a transfer to Liverpool this summer.
Bayern Munich have placed a price-tag of £27m on the Spanish international, as per The Athletic. Liverpool have been reluctant to meet their asking price as of yet. But should the club be able to move Wijnaldum on this summer, a move for Thiago would be funded.

Wijnaldum is a key member of the side, no denying that. But if the club is not planning to hand him a new contract, offloading him this summer would be the best possible scenario. There has been some interest from in him from La Liga giants Barcelona.
The funds from his sale would enable us to make a move for Thiago, who would be an upgrade in terms of the creativity that he would offer to the team.
