Transfer News: Celtic in no rush to sell key defensive star linked with Liverpool

Celtic not looking to cash in on Liverpool target Kristoffer Ajer

As reported by the Daily Record, Scottish champions Celtic have no intentions of selling star defender Kristoffer Ajer, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool’s need to potentially acquire a new defender to partner up with Virgil Van Dijk in the heart of defence has been no secret. The likes of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez remain at the club as options. But the recent sale of Dejan Lovren means that going into the new season without making a purchase could spell trouble.

One of the players that the Reds have been linked with over recent weeks is Celtic’s young Norwegian centre-half Ajer, as has been clarified by the Liverpool Echo. Although there haven’t been too many developments on this front, The report by the Daily Record has thrown light on the situation at hand.

The Premiership champions have recently completed the acquisition of Brighton defender Shane Duffy on a year-long loan deal. There were certain questions raised about whether or not his arrival would trigger the end of Ajer’s Celtic career. But that’s not the way things have panned out. (h/t Daily Record)

The report states that the Hoops are in no hurry to sell the player despite the giant Irishman’s arrival at the club.

The Norwegian defender has made quite the name for himself in the Scottish top-flight. His exploits over the course of last campaign would’ve surely turned heads. And, the fact that Ajer is still only 22-years-old will surely come as an added boost to any potential suitors.

Having been a Celtic player since 2016, Ajer is equipped to deal with the physical requirements of the British game. His physical presence and decision-making would’ve provided us with the perfect long-term partner for Van Dijk.

This report doesn’t, by any means, mean that the player is off our radar. Although the Hoops aren’t in a rush to sell, a big transfer fee can tip the scales in our favour. Patience is undoubtedly going to be of utmost importance in the chase for the Norwegian’s signature.
