Liverpool could join Chelsea in Marcelo Brozovic pursuit
According to 90min.com (h/t Liverpool Echo), Premier League champions Liverpool could be set for a battle with rivals Chelsea for the transfer of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
The 27-year-old Croatian has grown into one of the most reliable central midfielders in Europe, putting up consistent performances one after the other for the Nerazzurri. In four years at the club, Brozovic has racked up 200 appearances, scoring 23 goals and assisting 25 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Brozovic is also an integral member of the Croatian national team and has made 51 appearances so far. He was a pivotal part of the team that made it to the finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
However, Inter Milan are preparing to offload the midfielder this summer, as per reports. This has led to interest from the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
And the report claims that Liverpool could also join the race for the Croatian international, having tracked him earlier this year.
As things stand, Liverpool have a packed midfield unit. But there could be a space opening up amid speculations surrounding the future of mainstay Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutchman is in the final year of his contract with the club and has been heavily linked with a summer transfer to Barcelona.
Club sources have reportedly dismissed those speculations. But with his contract set to expire in less than twelve months, it may come to a scenario when we may have to let him go now or lose him for nothing next summer.

In addition, James Milner is not getting any younger. So, bringing in someone of Brozovic’s quality and proven pedigree would be a smart move by the club. However, given the restricted transfer budget, we might find it difficult going up against the likes of Chelsea and PSG.
